Brian Currin Music, Cape Town, South Africa

Welcome to Brian Currin Music.

About me

My name is Brian Currin and I have loved music all my life. I am a self-employed Web Marketer and Music Consultant. I live, work and play in Cape Town, South Africa.

I focus on helping musicians and other people in the business of promoting and selling South African music to establish a presence on the internet, and market and sell their music to the world.

In 1997 I was involved in the rediscovery of the world’s biggest cult musician, Rodriguez. I have a deep love for South Africa, its people and its music and was co-founder of the influential SA Rock Digest in 1999 with Stephen Segerman.

I have been involved in compiling various compilation CDs including: 'Disco Fever' (Gallo, 1999), McCully Workshop 'Greatest Hits' (2005), Abstract Truth 'Silver Trees & Totum' (FreshMusic, 2005), 'Astral Daze - South African Psychedelic Rock 1968-1972' (FreshMusic, February 2006) and various CDs in the Solid Gold Music series.

I have also written sleeve notes and artist biographies for a number of albums including releases by Abstract Truth, The Radio Rats, Jack Hammer, McCully Workshop and The Tidal Wave. I have provided research information for the sleeve notes for CD releases from Rodriguez, Falling Mirror, John Kongos, the SA Top 40 Hits Of All-Time Volume 6 and a few others.

I have compiled Musical Family Trees (similar to Pete Frame) for Trevor Rabin, McCully Workshop, Third Eye, The Radio Rats, Steve Louw, Clout, Abstract Truth, Freedom's Children, Tidal Wave and others, some of which have been published in CD booklets.

Over the years, I have helped many South African musicians and music-related businesses (and also many non-music ones) establish a presence on the internet. I am a strong believer in web standards compliance, search engine optimization and social media marketing.

My current musical projects include Music Choice International (I consult on 3 South African channels for this UK based company, who supply content to TopTV), Rhythm Music Store (I am content editor and web marketer) and SAMP3.com (I was co-founder in 2002). I founded the South African Rock Encyclopedia website in 1999 and I am still the curator.

I have been web surfing since 1997 and back in those days there was no Google, Wikipedia, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, RhythmMusicStore.com or Broadband. It seems pretty unbelievable to me now that there was even life before the Internet, as computers and the Net are such an integral part of my life, both for income generation and for relaxation.
